Captivating Thursday is a meme hosted by me that showcases beautiful things--whether it be photos, quotes, poetry, music, videos, or anything else that I happen upon.
First, I wanted to post a very wonderful video made by Amna the amazing just for CT. *huggles* A must-watch: the beautiful words! the ACCENT!
The Moment by Margaret Atwood (courtesy of poemhunter & recommended by Amna)
The moment when, after many years
of hard work and a long voyage
you stand in the centre of your room,
house, half-acre, square mile, island, country,
knowing at last how you got there,
and say, I own this,
is the same moment when the trees unloose
their soft arms from around you,
the birds take back their language,
the cliffs fissure and collapse,
the air moves back from you like a wave
and you can't breathe.
No, they whisper. You own nothing.
You were a visitor, time after time
climbing the hill, planting the flag, proclaiming.
We never belonged to you.
You never found us.
It was always the other way round.
"A person is, among all else, a material thing, easily torn and not easily mended."
— Ian McEwan, Atonement

"I spin and weave and knit my words and visions until a life starts to take shape. "
--Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls
"What do you want from me?" he asks.
What I want from every person in my life, I want to tell him.
More."

Today I am going to kill something. Anything.
I have had enough of being ignored and today
I am going to play God. It is an ordinary day,
a sort of grey with boredom stirring in the streets
I squash a fly against the window with my thumb.
we did that at school. Shakespeare. It was in
another language and now the fly is in another language.
I breathe out talent on the glass to write my name.
I am a genius. I could be anything at all, with half
the chance. But today I am going to change the world.
something’s world. The cat avoids me. The cat
knows I am a genius, and has hidden itself.
I pour the goldfish down the bog. I pull the chain.
I see that it is good. The budgie is panicking.
Once a fortnight, I walk the two miles into town
For signing on. They don’t appreciate my autograph.
There is nothing left to kill. I dial the radio
and tell the man he’s talking to a superstar.
he cuts me off. I get our bread-knife and go out.
the pavements glitter suddenly. I touch your arm.

I love the poetry, music, and pictures. They're so fascinating and inspirational.
I love the couple in the road.
Omg. AMNA! She is a genius. And wow...her accent!
The pictures are lovely. I like the one with the couple in the road especially. It reminds of two of my characters.
And I love the quote from Atonement! That is one of my favorite books.
Hmm. I think I might do one of these, if I can find anything. I'll be back with the link.
And great post! <3
Amna's accent is absolutely lovely as is every single thing in this post! Ah! Must save all.
*sniff*
But I can't have Amna's accent
I actually do a post that's very similar to this. It's called "Daily Dose" but it's more focused on photography. Maybe I'll incorporate poetry and music like you do :)
I didn't know that Margaret Atwood wrote poetry until last year. I love it. Thanks for introducing me to another one of hers.
Here's my Captivating Thursday post!

I love the last pic the most-the girl among the waters... :)
I really love the wintergirls photography. It's quite stunning.
I always like these posts. But where are the pictures from? They should get credits just like the poems, yes?
Wow, this post is so refreshing and vibrant. It has originality written all over it. Thanks for sharing.
