1) Birthmarked by Caragh M. O'Brien: So, on the inside, there's a note from the editor that describes Birthmarked as "The Handmaid's Tale meets The Hunger Games." Which is about all I need to know in order to FANGIRL SQUEAL after it arrived on my doorstep.
2) Hamlet by Shakespeare: Oh Hamlet, how much I've heard about thou!
I mean, this is the play where quotes like "To be or not to be, that is the question" and "The lady doth protest too much, methinks," come from. *swoons*
I bought it because it's been assigned for my English class. Which I'm pretty happy about. Because usually, my English class never has assigned reading. I've never read a whole play by Shakespeare; even Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade was deemed "too complicated" for our little freshmen minds to comprehend. Ouch. We watched a movie on it instead. [sarcasm] Gee, thanks, Freshman-English-Teacher-who-will-go-unnamed. [/sarcasm] And then in 10th grade we read a bit of Julius Caesar, the comic strip, and watched a movie instead of actually, you know, reading the whole darn thing.
Anyways, I'm glad I'm finally reading something by Shakespeare and will no longer be a complete Shakespeare ignoramus.

Although now I'm rocking MacBeth and I was pretty ticked when I found out that there was a Julius Caesar graphic novel. And Birthmarked seems purrrty epic.

Hamlet is a good play to start with. There is a lot of action and a lot going on, so it stays interesting. And the ending is wonderful!
(If you are looking for a laugh, rent the movie version starring Mel Gibson.)

Oooooh, Birthmarked has caught my interest!
WHAT was going on with your English classes? (Or teachers?) I was forced to read Shakespearean plays all the time in high school! And Jane Eyre (although that wasn't difficult-I read that book twice when I was like twelve!) I even had to read Arthurian tales and complex stuff like The Aeneid & The Odyssey. Don't even get me started on Dante's Inferno--!
...Although, now that I look back on those times, I'm glad my teachers forced that stuff on me. It was hard to comprehend at first but then I felt so...smart. xD! Your teachers shouldn't have been so quick to think that your class couldn't handle Shakespeare. :/ Oh, Hamlet. I really liked Horatio (hamlet's biffle) and Ophelia (hamlet's girlfriend). There's a YA book called Ophelia...so maybe once you finish the play, you could read that! It's really good. :)
I completely forgot to add this in my long, rambling comment: that puppy pic looks suspiciously like the floaty puppy pics I have in an old post. Hmmm...!

@Pirate. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WITH MY ENGLISH TEACHERS/CLASSES. ( But I go to a not-so-good school though,where reading is about as rare as edible food in the cafeteria--i.e, doesn't exist).
I LOVE Jane Eyre, but basically all the literature I've read isn't assigned, I read it when I should be reading YA for this blog, haha.AND I <3 the Odyssey, but again, have yet to read the original text. We were supposed to read it 9th grade and instead...*surprise* we watched the mini series. FOR A WHOLE FREAKING MONTH. (don't ask me how, but we basically watched 10 minutes per class period, while the teacher paused it every minute to explain what was happening in the scene.) Basically, any required reading we're supposed to do, we watch movies instead. Lolololol. And I want to read the Aenid & Dante's Inferno sometime...:)
And I'll definitely look into Ophelia afterwards!

Wowz, see in my school we were FORCED to use our imagination and actually had to THINK about what we were reading. A lot of my classmates were annoyed at first because they weren't being spoon fed but afterwards, they got used to it.. I only got to watch the movies based on Shakespeare's plays. (like that "modern" remake of Romeo & Juliet-which I thought SUCKED. And Hamlet where Mel Gibson was there. :D)
